Slope Calculator

Calculate slope and line equation from two points.

About this tool

Calculate the slope between two points and the full equation of the straight line passing through them, in slope-intercept form (y = mx + b).

Key Features

  • Slope (rise over run)
  • Full line equation in y = mx + b form
  • Correctly flags a vertical line (undefined slope)

How to Use

  1. Enter the coordinates of both points.
  2. Click Calculate Slope.

Benefits

  • Check algebra homework on linear equations
  • Find the equation of a line through two known points
  • Understand positive, negative, zero and undefined slopes

Frequently Asked Questions

A slope of 0 means the line is perfectly horizontal \u2014 y doesn't change as x changes.
When both points share the same x-coordinate, the line is perfectly vertical \u2014 vertical lines have an undefined slope because the standard slope formula would require dividing by zero.
