Frequently Asked Questions

No — like most introductory physics problems, this assumes idealized motion with no air drag. Real-world projectiles (especially light or fast-moving ones) will have a shorter range than this predicts.
45° gives the maximum range when the launch and landing height are the same. If launching from an elevated height, the optimal angle is actually slightly less than 45°.
